address
Subject: USS
HULL naming effort
Dear Congressman
or woman xxxxxxxxx,
I’m writing this letter as both a constituent and a member of the USS HULL
DD-350, DD-945 Association requesting that you support our petition and
encourage the Secretary of the Navy to name a sixth combat vessel of the United
States Navy after Commodore Isaac Hull.
Commodore Hull had
a storied career as a Naval officer and seaman. He is perhaps most famous as the
commanding officer of the USS Constitution, “Old Ironsides”, in its victory in
the War of 1812 against HMS Guerrière.
Additional
historical information is available at our web site: http://usshullassociation.org/HullTheMan/HullTheMan.htm
Our petition is
submitted on behalf of members of the USS HULL Association who are living
veterans of service in two of the ships named HULL. DD-350 survived the attack
at Pearl Harbor and served meritoriously until she sank during a 1944 typhoon. A
dozen of those survivors remain with us. My HULL, DD-945, served with valor
throughout much of the Cold War and Vietnam.
My contemporary
shipmates from DD-945 and the handful of survivors of the “Greatest Generation”
HULL, DD-350, would be honored and most grateful if you would join us in this
noble effort to return the name of Isaac Hull, a true patriot, to the U.S.
fleet.
Sincerely,
